ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Next month will bring a major change for fans of the Virginia Lottery who would like to play online.
Beginning July 1, adults will be able to purchase tickets for games including Powerball and Mega Millions from their smartphone, tablet or computer.
They will also be able to play instant-win games, the electronic version of scratchers, without visiting a retailer.
Kevin Hall is the Executive Director of the Virginia Lottery.
“Retail will continue to be the core of our business, the traditional scratch ticket,” Hall told WDBJ7 Tuesday morning, “but we think having an online sales channel will help make the Virginia Lottery relevant to a new and different type of customer who perhaps never gave it any thought previously.”
Lawmakers approved the change earlier this year. Virginia is the seventh state to offer lottery games online.
