A man who won big on a scratchie has found the perfect way to thank the person who encouraged him to buy the ticket.
The Perth student landed himself a massive $100,000 from a single Scratch’n’Win ticket which was the first he’d bought in his life.
The Ballajura man in his late 20s was purchasing his weekly Oz Lotto ticket at Morley North News before the win.
He’d opted for a $6.60 play slip but the shop had a minimum $10 limit, sealing his fortunate fate.
“The woman asked if I’d like to buy a scratchie to make up the difference, so I agreed,” he said.
“I scratched it in the car and had to go back and check to see if what I’d won was right because I’ve never bought a scratchie before.”
He won $100,000 off that $5 Break the Bank scratchie and found a lovely way to thank the newsagent owner.
Morley North News owner Anna Chung was taken aback when the winner returned.
“He came in with a box of chocolates and shared $300 of his winnings with us to say thank you for convincing him to buy a Scratch’n’Win ticket,” she said.
“It was a very generous gift.
“He is a very sweet guy and the money will go towards a new bed for my daughter.”
The international student will use the rest of the money to pay for his studies – and become an Australian citizen.
A fitting end for a touching story.
