LANSING, MI — A Muskegon County man was so happy he screamed when he won a $1 million jackpot playing the Michigan Lottery’s 50X the Cash instant game.
“When I scratched the ticket off and saw it was a $1 million winner, I screamed: ‘This can’t be real!’” said the 45-year-old player who chose to remain anonymous. “You dream of winning, but to see that $1 million dream come true is something else.”
He bought his winning ticket at the Wesco gas station, located at 1025 East Pontaluna Road in Spring Lake. He visited Michigan Lottery headquarters recently to claim his prize. The winner elected to receive his prize as a one-time lump-sum payment of $634,000 rather than the annuity.
With his winnings, he plans to invest in his business.
The last player from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot was Cristy Davis of Waterford who won $70 million playing Powerball in February. With her winnings, Davis said she planned to buy a new house and car.
And while she was a lucky winner, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a winner worth $1 million sold in Hartland last year went unclaimed. The ticket was purchased at the Speedway in Hartland, but the winner never came forward to claim the prize. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
