PRINCEVILLE — A gas station employee took more than $12,000 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets, the business’ owner told police.
This week, the owner of the Fast Stop gas station, 615 E. Main St. in Princeville, reported his allegation to the the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. He said that an accounting of his records showed that a cashier had taken tickets during her shifts in May and June.
When the cashier was not working, the his lottery-ticket count would be accurate. But after her shifts, the count would be “well off,” according to a sheriff’s report.
The face value of the missing tickets is $12,343, the report stated. There was no estimate as to the winnings from the tickets.
The owner said he confronted the cashier, who said “she did play the scratch-offs but he could not be short that absurd amount of money,” the report stated.
The woman no longer works at the business. A police investigation has begun.
