BURKE, VA — When Clarence Taylor won $25 with a lottery scratch ticket, it was a no-brainer to try a few more. The next time, the prize was a lot bigger.
Taylor scored $200,000 by winning twice in the Cash 5 game. Those winning tickets came from the Giant Food store at 6011 Burke Centre Parkway in Burke.
“I was super excited!” he told the Virginia Lottery officials. “I ran to tell my fiancé. She said, ‘Shut up!'”
The top prize for Cash 5 is $100,000, so he doubled the prize with two winning tickets. Both tickets contained the same five numbers: 10-12-26-29-30, which matched the winning numbers in the July 8 night drawing.
Taylor, a records specialist at a law firm has no immediate plans for his winnings.
Cash 5 drawings are held twice each day at 1:59 p.m. and 11 p.m. The odds of winning the $100,000 top prize are 1 in 278,256.
